Self-propelled Modular Transporters

Self-propelled modular transporters (SPMT) are platform vehicles with a large array of wheels and consist of different modules with 4,5,6 and 8 axle lines. Each module has its own engine and control steering system. These vehicles are ideal for transporting huge cargoes like large bridge sections, oil refining sections, motors and other objects that are too big for lorries or trucks. That’s why here at JB Rawcliffe & Sons Ltd, we are proud to offer SPMT hire – providing a solution for all your transportation problems.

We have 28 lines of self-propelled modular transporters available for the movement  of large and heavy cargoes, offering a capacity of over 1000 tonnes. Our self-propelled modular transporters are suitable for various trailer lengths and can be adapted to multiple width configurations – depending on load dimensions and the scale of projects – making them perfect for operation in stringent conditions. We also offer some SPMTs that feature a reduced height and compact design, making them easier to operate in confined spaces.

With modular construction, a self-propelled transporter can be coupled side to side and end to end, enabling it to carry a cargo of enormous size. Alternatively, remote units can be operated as a single transporter. The steering of these self-propelled modular transporters is controlled by electro-hydraulic motors.

Different from mechanical steering trailers, each modular unit is independently controlled and monitored by a multi-way computerised control system and can swing through 260° (+130°). With nine steering programs available, it goes without saying that a self-propelled modular transporter allows for excellent manoeuvrability. Some SPMTs come with a driver cabin for extra control but most can drive automatically – even without the tractor’s traction.

A self-propelled modular transporter (SPMT) isn’t the same as a modular trailer. The SPMT is a platform vehicle that consists of a range of wheels that drive and turn independently and is often used on sites to transport heavy, bulky objects, such as industrial equipment.

The main differences between the two are the SPMT’s self contained and the modular trailer’s require a tractor unit.

Great for transporting civil constructions and petrochemical components, the self-propelled modular transporter is renowned for efficient on-site transportation. When it comes to loading oversized goods safely, in areas of restricted access, you cannot go wrong with a self-propelled modular transporter from JB Rawcliffe & Sons Ltd.

Used to transport the heaviest cargo, the SPMT is extremely useful for an array of industrial projects. Using a self-propelled modular trailer, you can remove or place new structures in just a few minutes or hours – depending on the complexity of your project.
